Golaghat (Assam) [India], September 14 (ANI): Launching a scathing attack on Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday stressed that the BJP government's mantra is "Nagrik Devo Bhava", where people should not face any inconvenience, while during Congress' rule, the citizens were made to "suffer" and were "insulted".
Addressing a gathering in Assam's Golaghat, the Prime Minister slammed the previous Congress-led Assam governments, alleging that the citizens were insulted because they were to appease a "particular class".
"The BJP government has only one mantra for development. That mantra is- 'Nagrik Devo Bhava'. That is, the citizens of the country should not face any inconvenience. They should not have to wander here and there for their petty needs. For a long time during the rule of Congress, the poor were made to suffer and were insulted, because the work of Congress was done by appeasing a particular class. They used to get power. But the BJP does not emphasise appeasement, but satisfaction," the Prime Minister said.
PM Modi also informed about the progressive construction of 20 lakh concrete houses in Assam, which will be provided to the poor section of the society.
"We are working with the feeling that no poor, no area, should be left behind. Today, the work of building concrete houses for the poor in Assam is also progressing rapidly. So far, more than 20 lakh concrete houses have been provided to the poor in Assam," he said.
PM Modi further considered Assam as one of the key centres of the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign. He also expressed confidence in the state's capability towards the semiconductor mission.
The Prime Minister also recalled the time when Assam's tea didn't have much recognition; however, the people turned it into a "global brand" in a short period of time.
"Today, our country is demonstrating the pinnacle of hard work for the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign. Assam is one of the key centres of this campaign. I have full confidence in Assam's potential, which is why we have chosen Assam for a very large campaign, and that campaign is the Semiconductor Mission... During the era of slavery, Assam tea did not have that much recognition, but in no time, Assam's soil and the people of Assam turned Assam tea into a global brand," the Prime Minister said.
PM Modi also stressed the infiltration challenge in Assam amidst the continuous developmental efforts in the state. He slammed the previous Congress governments, alleging that they had given shelter to infiltrators to disturb the state's demography for their vote bank.
"Amidst these development efforts, a challenge is becoming more and more severe in front of Assam. This challenge is of infiltration. When the Congress government was here, it gave land to the infiltrators and gave protection to illegal occupation. Congress disturbed the balance of Assam's demography in the greed of vote bank. Now the BJP government is fighting this challenge along with the people of Assam... I would also like to praise the Assam government for Mission Basundhara. Under this, land leases have been given to lakhs of families... BJP is fully committed to correct the historical injustice done to the tribal society," he said.
Meanwhile, India got its first second-generation ethanol plant on Sunday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the Numaligarh Refinery Ltd's bamboo-based refinery unit in Assam. The foundation stone of the NRL Bio Refinery at Numaligarh was laid by the PM himself on February 9, 2019.
This is significant news for Assam in particular, and the northeast region as a whole, as these states grow bamboo in abundance.
In 2014, the ethanol blending was just 1.53 per cent. By 2022, India had achieved a 10 per cent blending rate, five months ahead of schedule.
The original target of 20 per cent blending (E20) by 2030 was advanced to 2025 and has already been achieved in the current ethanol supply year (ESY).
The Numaligarh Rs 5,000 crore 2nd-generation bioethanol plant is the first such unit in the world to utilise bamboo.
It is a zero-waste plant, as it utilises every part of the bamboo to produce high-value industrial chemicals such as green furfural and green acetic acid, which is used in APIs, food-grade carbon dioxide (CO2) and bio-coal. This plant also champions net zero, producing 25 MW of green electricity.
"Experts suggest that our oceans hold significant reserves of oil and gas. To identify and utilise these resources effectively, we are launching the National Deep Water Exploration Mission. Simultaneously, India is making remarkable progress in the field of green energy and sustainable power generation. While the country lagged behind in solar power production just a decade ago, it has now risen to rank among the top five nations globally in this sector," PM said at the event."Assam is the land that enhances India's energy capacity. Petroleum products produced here accelerate the country's development. The BJP, NDA government is committed to taking Assam's strength to new heights," the PM said. (ANI)
