A spell of heavy monsoon showers is set to drench Delhi from August 14, ending the city’s brief break of dry, partly cloudy skies.
Weather models reviewed by ToI indicate persistent rainfall for much of the week ahead, with the heaviest downpours expected between Thursday and Sunday.
Wednesday (August 13) will be comparatively calm, with daytime highs reaching 34°C before dipping to around 29.5°C at night.
Skies will be partly cloudy, winds will blow gently from the northwest at up to 14.4 km/h, and humidity will hover near 59%. While the chance of rain remains negligible today, the Met Office still advises carrying an umbrella as a precaution.
From Wednesday, conditions will turn wet.
Moderate rain of about 8.3 mm is forecast, followed by heavier spells on Independence Day (August 15) and August 16, when rainfall could exceed 15 mm and 10 mm respectively.
Showers will persist on August 17, coinciding with peak weekly humidity of 80%.
Though rain intensity is expected to ease by August 18 and 19, scattered showers will likely continue. Temperatures over the week will vary between 26°C and 36.2°C, with cooler nights during the rainiest period.
Commuters should watch out for possible waterlogging midweek, particularly in low-lying neighbourhoods.
