Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The state-owned telecom company has established a wide network of telecommunication and internet services by installing more than 260 towers in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected districts in the last two years.
This, besides enhancing communication, has also played a key role in raising awareness among residents, dispelling misinformation, and empowers youths with new digital tools. Internet access has turned the attention of the youths towards social media as they are now using digital platforms to promote their products, create content, and engage in self-branding.
The years old issue of poor communication in Naxal-affected districts like Balaghat, Dindori, and Mandla has been addressed over the past two years. With the installation of mobile towers, BSNL has provided mobile and internet connectivity in these regions. The BSNL is going to soon begin work on remaining 90 towers and which will bring 4G internet connectivity to every corner of these districts, officials added.
The officials engaged in anti-naxal operation in their analysis mentioned that the initiative has improved communication among the police. Besides, this has also enabled better and timely sharing of the information about the movements of Naxals.
It is claimed that youth in these districts are now receiving correct and authentic information about the government, enabling them to distinguish between truth and propaganda. Internet access has also enabled people to avail themselves of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes, dispelling the misconception that the government is not providing them their rightful dues.

They are beginning to understand how Naxalism is ruining their lives,” said officials.
The youths are now utilizing their time responsibly, focusing on studies and in spare time watching reels and also creating content, they added.
In the last six months, about ten Naxalites have been killed in encounters, and the remaining ones in hidings to save their lives.

Special DG or Anti Naxal Operation, Pankaj Srivastava said, Due to the installation of mobile towers in the core areas, the villagers are getting direct payment and Naxalites have suffered financially. With better telecommunication and internet services the youths from these areas are also promoting and branding their products through social media.
