Ryder Cup MC Heather McMahan responds after apologising for vulgar Rory McIlroy chant

Heather McMahan has issued a short reply after sparking huge controversy and stepping down from her role as Ryder Cup host.

The American comedian and actress, was presenting at the first tee at Bethpage on Saturday, tasked with hyping up and already hostile home crowd.

But she stepped over the line when orchestrating the crowd to chant "F*** you Rory" directed at world number two Rory McIlroy.

The PGA have since confirmed that McMahan will not reprise her role on Sunday and has offered the Northern Irishman an apology.

"Heather has extended an apology to Rory McIlroy and Ryder Cup Europe and has stepped down from hosting the first tee of the Ryder Cup," the statement confirmed, reports the Daily Star.

And she has has now addressed the situation on social media, appearing in a video whilst holding a glass of wine and wearing a beard filter, where McMahan declared: "Guys I'm having a glass of wine... It's been a f****** day."

Team Europe delivered another commanding performance on the second day of the Ryder Cup, building a commanding seven-point lead over the Americans.

But the European players had to contend with a vociferous crowd, with police forced to eject spectators throughout the day.

McIlroy had embraced his role as the pantomime villain by blowing kisses towards hecklers, yet the crowd began to irritate him as he turned and shouted: "shut the f*** up," and declined to putt until they fell silent.

Discussing the spectators at the Ryder Cup, McIlroy remarked: "I don't mind them having a go at us. Like that's to be expected. I mean, that's what an away Ryder Cup is.

"Whenever they are still doing it while you are over the ball and trying to hit your shot, that's the tough thing."

New York State police spokesman Beau Duffy confirmed two fans were ejected. The PGA said it added security to the McIlroy and Lowry match and the other three. It also posted reminders about "Spectator Etiquette" which was roundly booed.

Team Europe are on the brink of their first triumph on American turf since 2012. They require just three points from Sunday's pairs matches, but the hosts refuse to throw in the towel.

Bryson DeChambeau, who alongside Cameron Young secured one of the US' two points on Saturday, remains convinced Team USA can pull off a miracle.

"Anything can happen," declared the two-time major champion who has been a massive hit with the galleries this week. I know it's quite lopsided, but it would make for a great comeback story."
