A woman who is known on TikTokunder the username '@moblibuse' has amassed over 52,800 followers by sharing her favourite recipes. In a recent video, she was seen using frozen mince meat to make a mince and potato roulade. But what really caught her viewer's attention was the way she thawedher meat.
At the beginning of her video, the woman is seen with a frozen block of mince meat that she portioned out in a clear plastic bag.
She then went on to grab two large saucepans, placing the first one upside down on the kitchen counter. Next she placed the bag of frozen meat on top of the bottom of the pan before placing the other pan on top of the meat, with the bottom on top of the meat.
After she carried on preparing the meal with the tower of pots positioned beside her, enabling viewers to observe the meat defrosting as she continued readying her food. And when she was prepared to use the meat, she tipped the now defrosted meat into a pan to cook - but not before demonstrating herself clearly delighted by the defrosting trick.
How does the meat defrosting hack work?Metal transfers heat effectively, pulling warmth from the ambient air to quickly defrost the meat through excellent contact. This technique utilises the combined heat-conducting qualities of the metal pans to accelerate the defrosting process considerably.
Due to this, you can also fill the top pot with warm or hot water to speed up the process even further.
While the defrosting times differ depending on the meat's thickness and variety, this technique can substantially cut the time compared to air-defrosting.
People were swift to express their astonishment, as numerous individuals flocked to the video's comment section to voice their opinions.
"I had a horrible day but I learnt how to defrost meat... thank you," one person said.
Another person wrote: "Oh man! I just got some minced meat out!!!! I'm going to try it now!"
Things to remember when defrosting your foodAccording to the Food Standards Agency, the best way to defrost meat is to put it in the fridge until it's thawed. This prevents the meat from getting too warm, and thereby getting exposed to bacteria.
It's crucial to consume food within 24 hours once it's completely defrosted, as it will spoil in the same way as fresh food.
When thawing your food, ensure it's thoroughly defrosted and that the densest part of the food is fully thawed. Partially defrosted food might not cook evenly, potentially allowing harmful bacteria to survive the cooking process.
