Army chief gets special power from the centre, Territorial Army may be called; know what will be their work

The Army Chief can get them to do any kind of work that the Army wants. If desired, they can also be deployed to help the regular Army. The Defense Ministry has taken this decision under Rule 33 of the Territorial Rules 1948. An official notification has also been issued for this.

What is Territorial Army?

• Territorial Army (TA) are people who take military training alongside their normal job.
• These people are ready to protect the country when needed.
• The TA currently has 32 infantry battalions, 14 of which can now be deployed under different commands.
• These include Southern, Eastern, Western, Central, Northern, South Western Command besides Andaman-Nicobar and Army Training Command (ARTRAC).
• They will be deployed only when the government provides some budget for them.
• If the Defence Ministry or any other ministry associated with it calls the Territorial Army for its needs, then the money for it will have to be paid to the same ministry.

Why did the Indian government take this decision?

The tension between India and Pakistan is at its peak and at such a time the decision of the Indian government to form the Territorial Army is being considered an important step. India has vowed to wipe out the terrorists and in this direction the Indian Army carried out Operation Sindoor.

Under Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army has carried out air strikes in Pakistan and POK and killed more than 100 terrorists. At this time, the importance of the Territorial Army increases manifold.

With the help of the Territorial Army, India's military power will get even more strength. TA soldiers can not only help in security, but can also support the bulk of the regular army.
