Every year on 21st June, International Yoga Day is celebrated all over the world. This day reminds us that the health of our body and mind can be improved not only by medicines but also by Indian traditions like yoga. Since Corona, awareness about health has increased among people and the importance of yoga has been felt even more. This time the theme is "Yoga for one earth, one health" i.e. yoga is important for the well-being of oneself as well as for society. On this occasion, we talked to Delhi's yoga teacher Prashant Ji, who has been teaching yoga for the last several years.
Prashant Ji also said that yoga is beneficial for all ages. It increases concentration in children, reduces stress in youth, and provides relief for problems like joint pain or diabetes for the elderly. If a person wants to start yoga for the first time, then he should start with only 10-15 minutes of light asanas and pranayamas like Anulom-Vilom, Vajrasana, Bhujangasana and asanas like Brahmari, Tadasana.
Avoid these mistakes
While doing yoga, many people hurry and start with difficult asanas, which can cause injury. Prashant Ji says that patience is the most important thing in yoga. Do not do yoga without preparation or proper guidance. Nowadays people are becoming more active in yoga, especially the trend of online classes, apps, and yoga retreats has increased rapidly, due to which now people in villages can learn yoga sitting at home.
What misconceptions do people have?
People have many misconceptions about yoga like it is only for the elderly or it requires a lot of time. Prashant Ji calls these things completely wrong and says that yoga is for everyone, one just need to give a little time every day. Technology has also played a big role in the spread of yoga. Apps and virtual classes have made it very easy.
How does it help in mental peace?
Prashant said that yoga relaxes the mind. Doing meditation and pranayama reduces anxiety and anger. You get good sleep. Yoga is very effective in problems like depression and anxiety.
What should be the yoga diet?
Prashant ji said that homemade, less spicy, fresh food is the best. Like dal, vegetables, chapati, fruit, salad, and buttermilk. Avoid eating too much fried or spicy food as it makes the body lethargic.
