New Delhi: A 28-year-old Indian student, who had gone to the US for higher studies, was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Dallas, Texas on Friday night.

The victim, Chandrashekar Pole, was working at a gas station when the shooting took place.

Pole, who was from Hyderabad, had been in the US for higher studies since 2023 after completing his Bachelor’s degree in dental surgery in India. He recently completed his US Master’s and was working part-time while looking for a full-time placement.

The shocking incident comes just a month after another Indian man, Chandra Mouli Nagamallaiah, was beheaded in the same city.

Former Telangana minister and BRS MLA T Harish Rao said he and other party leaders visited the victim’s family on Saturday to express their condolences.

“It is tragic that Chandrashekar Pole, a Dalit student from LB Nagar who completed BDS and went to America (Dallas) for higher studies, died in a shooting carried out by miscreants early morning (Indian time),” wrote Harish, BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao’s nephew, on X.

Expressing grief over the tragedy, chief minister Revanth Reddy conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family, and assured support to the victim’s family and said his government will extend all cooperation to bring back the body.

According to details on his LinkedIn profile, Pole had been employed with GEICO on a part-time basis as a senior data analyst since August 2024.

He had earlier worked with American Express as a data analyst in Chennai from 2021 to 2023, and as a programmer analyst with Hitachi Energy in Bengaluru from 2020 to 2021.

In September, Chandra Mouli, a 50-year-old Indian-origin motel manager, was beheaded in front of his wife and son in Dallas following a dispute over a washing machine.

Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, a co-worker with a criminal record, has been arrested and charged with capital murder.
