BBC Breakfast viewers were left so furious over footage of young male migrants crossing the English Channel into the UK that they switched the programme off. A report from Simon Jones saw him travel to Dunkirk, where migrants were seen scrambling onto small boats for the perilous journey across the water.

Jones explained: "Dawn in Dunkirk, and from the shadows, a group of migrants emerges and heads towards the water. It's clear they've been told to be on this beach at quarter to five, and they don't have long to wait until a so-called 'taxi boat' appears.

"Launched in the canals along northern France, as the law currently stands, French authorities won't intervene when a dinghy is on the water unless lives are in immediate danger."

The reporter went on to say: "This is a beach from which small boats have launched numerous times over the past few weeks. It wasn't difficult for us to find a large group of people wanting to get to the UK. We're here, there's no sign of the police."

Violence was spotted as migrants scrambled for the boats, with some almost getting punched as they tried to climb aboard already heaving dinghies.

Fuming viewers turned to social media to share their thoughts, with one tweeting: "I'll say it again - don't watch this sh*** #BBCBreakfast #GMB. Just watch #Cheers on Channel 4!"

Someone else echoed: "F***ing Dunkirk has changed since 1940 hasn't it, all those heroes 85 years ago might as well have not bothered." And another posted: "Wow, all young men!"
