Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus has been punished for allegedly criticising the club's sporting director in a video that's gone viral on social media. On Sunday, footage emerged of the ex-German international talking to club fans while on holiday in Mallorca.
While speaking with supporters, he appeared to label Roland Virkus "the worst manager in the world". He also appeared to reference the amount he's paid by the club.
"Don Rollo gives Florian Neuhaus one, two, three, four million," he said. The club have now taken action against Neuhaus for his behaviour, confirming he will not be training with the first team for the next four weeks.
Instead, the star will attend sessions with the club's under-23 side. He will also have to pay a "hefty fine" for his actions, and in a released statement, club CEO Stefan Stegemann outlined his disappointment.
"Florian Neuhaus' behaviour and statements are damaging to the club and unacceptable," he said. "His words have harmed the club and deeply disappointed those involved. This is incompatible with the values of the club."
The incident is likely to fuel speculation that Neuhaus, 28, will leave Gladbach this summer. He's been linked with a move to Augsburg, having been perceived to have lost his way since winning the last of his 10 international caps in 2022.
Neuhaus joined from 1860 Munich in 2017. He's since made 219 club appearances and scored 25 goals, but made just two Bundesliga starts under manager Gerardo Seoane last season.
His current contract runs until 2027. However, this incident makes it unlikely he'll break back into Seoane's first-choice XI in the 2025/26 campaign.
