CNN issues Donald Trump news alert after 'humiliating' blow - but it backfires

CNN was left red-faced after the channel broadcast a Donald Trump segment following his meeting with Vladimir Putin. Trump and Putin met in Anchorage, Alaska, to discuss Russia's ongoing conflict with Russia, with Trump making it clear that he wants to help the warring countries find a peace deal.

However, no deal was announced at the end of the meeting, but Trump insisted it was a positive one. Following the meeting, CNN welcome body language expert Chris Ulrich to discuss the movements between the two world leaders.

It comes after news reports claimed that Trump was "steamrolled" by Putin, with the Russian world leader being said as the "one in control" during the summit.

But Ulrich said, as he saw three separate clips, with the first being Trump clapping as Putin approached him. He said: "He's in the authority position. By using that clap, he's taking some of the authority out of the moment, going from host into receiver. He offers a rapport and opportunity to lighten the moment through that clap. It's followed by a smile as he puts his hand out in this very open palm gesture."

Discussing the two men shaking hand on camera, he said: "The handshake is a negotiation, an ongoing signal for power. Trump shows deference, followed by pulling the hand in and using these touch gestures to reestablish dominance as they walk down, showing he's [Trump] in control, he's in command."

"Trump does his effort here where he'll pat the other person's hand. It's a dominant gesture. It's like he's in control, he's in command."

Presenter Michael Smerconish added: "This is clearly not their first rodeo. Both of them will have thought in advance, how do I want to do this? It is the furthest thing from a candid moment that you're ever going to find."

The analysis was shared on social media, as one X user called out CNN for trying to embarrass Trump, but it backfired following the positive comments from the expert.

They penned: "LMAO! CNN had a body language expert on to analyze President Trump's interaction with Putin and he had nothing but good things to say - "He's in control, he's in COMMAND!" Liberals are going to hate this."

Another agreed: "Probably not the outcome CNN was hoping for, Trump came off looking 100% in charge," as a third chimed in: "He is focused on saving lives, and here we are, wasting time debating applause. This is ridiculous!"

It comes after Fox News reporter Jacqui Henrich called out Trump on live TV, in a very unusual move for the channel, saying: "It was very unusual, atypical and I think we're all awaiting the read-out because the way it felt in the room was not good, it did not seem like things went well and it seemed Putin came in and steamrolled, got right into what he wanted to say and said what he wanted to say to the President and then left."
