GMB's Susanna Reid tears apart Labour with scathing dig 'how can they do this?'

Susanna Reid ripped into the Labour government while hosting ITV's Good Morning Britain, alongside Ed Balls, on Thursday. The 54-year-old presenter said that it was "remarkable" that Keir Starmer and the Labour party are going to put 250,000 more people into poverty.

Not holding back while giving her opinion, Susanna said: "It is remarkable that this is a Labour government suggesting a cut to welfare benefits which their own analysis says is going to put 250,000 more people into poverty, including 58,000 children. And the Labour backbench MPs are saying 'how can a Labour government do this? This looks like austerity, it's not within their DNA'." Former Conservative Chancellor, Kwasi Kwarteng then added his own thoughts, saying: "You're right. I mean this is the heart of their problem. But they can see the numbers going up, and they are committed to more defence spending. They can see that there is global uncertainty about the economy and people leaving the country, all of that, and they have to make choices about how they balance the books. That is what they are thinking."

But Susanna was less than impressed as she replied: "So, they're ploughing into war and taking away from the welfare of UK citizens."

It comes as Good Morning Britain also pointed out a "huge problem" for Sir Keir Starmer and he was facing quite the "challenge".

Ministers are believed to be considering more changes to the controversial Welfare Bill, as they frantically try to save Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer from a defeat in the Commons, less than a year since he was elected.

Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner has told the House of Commons the Government will press ahead with a vote next week on benefit cuts that will hit 800,000 people with disabilities.

More than 120 Labour MPs have backed an amendment attempting to stop reforms in a major blow to the leading politician - enough for the Government to lose the vote.

However, Sir Keir has appeared to shrug off mounting unrest over the proposed reforms, dismissing the backlash as "noises off" as he attended the NATO Summit in The Hague.
