I bought a £2.69 To Good To Go bag from coffee shop worth £36 - I was gobsmacked

If you've been on social media in the last couple of years, you may have come across people sharing the contents of surprise bags, breakfast bags, lunch bags, dinner bags or sweet and pastry bag orders from Too Good To Go. It is essentially an app that rescues bags of food destined for the bin and helps you save up to 70% on items from cafes, bakeries, fast food spots and supermarkets. But are they actually worth it?

From Costa and Pret to M&S and Aldi, I've seen a fair few people be amazed with what they've received, but some people have been disappointed with their bags. Curious as to whether Too Good To Go Bags are worth it, I picked up one from Caffe Nero.

Opening up the app, I was greeted with options from Pret, Co-op, Esquires, Greggs, Toby Carvery, Caffe Nero and Gails Bakery, but those had unfortunately all sold out.

Opting for the cheapest bag, I went for Caffe Nero's sweet and pastry bag, which only set me back £2.69. Given how little this cost, I wasn't expecting much from it.

When I got to the coffee shop, I loved that the bag was already packaged and looked full to the brim.

I retrieved my Too Good To Go bag, left the shop, and couldn't wait to see what sweet treats awaited me.

Opening up the bag, I was greeted with four paper bags. First up, we had three delicious raspberry croissants, which retail for £2.85 each, already bringing the total to £8.55.

In the second bag, we had a lovely trio of a cinnamon swirl (my favourite), a pain au raisin and an almond croissant. These three pastries came to a total of £8.75.

Next up was a package that had another pain au raisin, a classic butter croissant and a blackberry and white chocolate bun - something I've not seen in Caffe Nero before. These three sweet treats came to a total of £9.25.

When it came to opening up the fourth and final paper bag, I was already more than impressed with this Too Good To Go order. In this one, we had a cinnamon bun, a pain au chocolat and some sort of apricot pastry. The cost of these three together comes to £9.65.

Overall, the entire Too Good To Go Caffe Nero bag consisted of 12 items and came to a total of £36.20. To say I was impressed with it would be an utter understatement. Two words sum this up - crazy value. This has made me keen to pick up one of their other bags, perhaps a savoury one next time.

I'd also love to see what the other cafes have to offer, Gail's in particular, as two different times I have browsed the app since my first purchase, they always seem to be sold out.
