A lip-reading expert has disclosed the aapparent details of King Charles' private exchange with David Beckham during his knighthood ceremony. Their discussion featured a touching reference to David's wife, Victoria, following a pivotal contribution to her husband's momentous occasion.
Beckham, 50, was finally bestowed with a knighthood on Tuesday following more than 10 years of unsuccessful bids to obtain the accolade. The England and Manchester United icon has at last been acknowledged for his contributions to football, alongside his philanthropic work off the pitch. Following his ceremonial kneel to accept his new honour, Beckham engaged in an intimate dialogue with King Charles. The duo have encountered each other repeatedly throughout the years, yet this discussion took an unexpected turn as Becks was questioned about his future plans.
Lip-reading specialist Nicola Hickling revealed the King expressed to David that he was "proud" of him, according to Betfair Slots. In response, David disclosed his career aspirations following such a significant milestone.
Hickling utilised her skills and interpreted King Charles saying: "I am so proud of all you have done with your sports and charities. Amazing, you are unbelievable. I'm proud to knight you."
David replied it had been a "great day," prompting the King to encourage him to "do what you're good at." Beckham then continued: "It's been my greatest honour, if I'm honest. Next step, I'm going to write a book. But being here has been incredible today."
The King reportedly told David he "can write a book" but advised him to "try not to forget those names." In response, Beckham assured people would be "so happy to be mentioned in it."
Beckham has penned four autobiographies so far, with the latest one hitting the shelves back in 2013. Since then, he and his family have ventured into the world of streaming with their own Netflix docuseries, Beckham, while Victoria has also starred in her own show on the platform.
Victoria may have been a spectator to Beckham's crowning moment, but she was instrumental in shaping the day. This came to light when David revealed the former Spice Girl had put her fashion expertise to work by designing his suit, drawing inspiration from King Charles himself.
"He was quite impressed with my suit," Beckham told the Press Association. "He's kind of the most elegantly dressed man I know, so he's inspired quite a few of my looks over the years - and he definitely inspired this one.
"It was something my wife made me. I looked at old pictures of him when he was younger, wearing morning suits, and thought, that's exactly what I want. So I showed them to Victoria, and she created it."
This fashion detail marked a touching moment where Victoria also played a part in the Windsor Castle proceedings. And after 26 years of marriage, it's clear the bond between one of the world's most iconic power couples remains as strong as ever.
