The turmoil engulfing Manchester United appears to be deepening with each passing day. Following their shocking second-round Carabao Cup elimination at the hands of League Two outfit Grimsby Town, United suffered a comprehensive 3-0 defeat in the Manchester derby at the weekend. This campaign was meant to mark a fresh beginning for United's embattled boss Ruben Amorim following their dismal 15th-place finish last term, alongside their devastating Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
However, despite numerous new arrivals, Ruben Amorim finds himself facing mounting pressure once again. United sit 14th in the table with merely one victory from four matches, which arrived courtesy of a stoppage-time spot-kick against promoted side Burnley ahead of the international break. With speculation about a potential sacking surrounding Amorim, as well as a former United star's "criminal" claims, we take a look the latest developments from Old Trafford.
Amorim's sack warningEx-United shot-stopper Ben Foster has delivered a significant warning regarding Amorim's future in the Red Devils' dugout while speaking via his YouTube channel.
Foster suspects Amorim is already being monitored by the ownership for potential dismissal, with preparations even underway, though nobody at Old Trafford wishes to axe the Portuguese tactician.
He said: "It's already rumbling. It's already there. It's been rumbling for a long time. Nobody just wants to really commit to it. But I guarantee you, if, after eight games, they've got eight points and they're still in 14th or 15th position, somebody's gonna have to pull the trigger because it can't carry on like that because it's been proven now. It's nearly a year since he's been the manager. It won't work."
'Criminal' claimUnited kicked off the Manchester derby with Altay Bayndir in goal, despite snapping up goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day for £18.2million. Former No.1 Andre Onana also departed the club on loan for Turkish outfit Trabzonspor.
However, ex-United midfielder Scholes maintains that it is a "criminal offence" if United were not interested in Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer. City eventually completed the signing of PSG's Champions League-winning keeper for just £27m, with the Italian impressing against United on Sunday.
"I don't think the quality is there [in the side]," Scholes told the BBC. "Goalkeeper was a major issue. Did they really need to get to the Grimsby game to realise [Andre] Onana is not good enough?

"If Manchester United were not in the market for Gianluigi Donnarumma when he became available, that is [a] criminal offence. The recruitment side went to buy forwards. That did need addressing, but did it need three of them? I'm not sure it did."
Discussing Amorim's now-notorious adherence to his 3-4-3 formation, a strategy many believe will lead to the 40 year old's dismissal, Scholes was adamant that United's manager needs to alter his game plan.

"He cannot carry on playing this way, he just can't," Scholes added. "At some point there has to be a moment where he thinks, 'I have to change something because what I am doing now is not working and I am not getting results.
"The proof is there. I like Amorim, with everything he says, he seems to be a likeable man. But unfortunately results paint a picture." Next up for Amorim and United is a home tie against Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday, September 20.
