Owen Jones has taken to social media to deny he was on cocaine during an energetic interview with Piers Morgan during which the veteran journalist at one point stopped to ask: "Are you alright?". And the left-winger also took a swipe at Harry Potter author JK Rowling after she shared a clip via X.
Mr Jones clashed with Mr Morgan during an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, during which he was grilled about his support for punk duo Bob Vylan's controversial performance at Glastonbury. His animated appearance prompted Ms Rowling to share an excerpt in which Mr Jones responded to Mr Morgan's question by leaning forward in his chair and saying: "I'm getting excited...very excited."
She commented: "I've never seen film footage before where only one character has been sped up to 30x natural speed." Her post made no mention of drug use but others commenting on it did make references to cocaine.
In a post on X on Sunday, Mr Jones said: "And given @jk_rowling decided to amplify false claims I take cocaine before going on TV:
"I wasn't on cocaine, no. I was on amphetamines. Specifically Elvanse, 40mg, courtesy of the NHS.
"It helps ADHD, but it's not a miracle drug so sadly doesn't cure fast talking or clumsiness."

He also posted a picture of himself holding a vial of the medication, which has the generic name Lisdexamfetamine.
During Friday's interview, Mr Morgan pressed Mr Jones on his defence of the Bob Vylan after their controversial "death to the IDF" chant.
Mr Morgan played footage capturing the explicit line "death to every single IDF soldier out there," confronting Jones over his earlier claim that it was merely metaphorical.
Mr Jones initially tried to downplay the statement as a critique of the Israeli military institution-comparing dismantling the IDF to reforming the NHS.
However, once the clip played, the metaphorical defence collapsed, leaving Mr Jones visibly unsettled as Mr Morgan pressed him to clarify whether Vylan's intent was literal or symbolic.
Mr Jones and Ms Rowling have clashed publicly over transgender rights, with Mr Jones frequently criticising Ms Rowling's stance as transphobic.
Their feud reignited in early 2025 when Ms Rowling condemned Mr Jones for what she saw as hypocrisy during a debate involving Suella Braverman and national identity.
Ms Rowling accused Mr Jones of dismissing women's concerns about single-sex spaces, while Mr Jones maintained that Ms Rowling's rhetoric fuels hostility toward trans people.
