A new teen mystery series has been making a lasting impression on Prime Video viewers, with many admitting they had "never cried so much" over a television show.
The YA thriller, which features some truly gutwrenching twists, left some people warning others not to watch it if they didn't want to be "heartbroken".
However, others have praised the show, with hopes of a second series already being voiced by fans.
The show, We Were Liars, is based on a series of young-adult novels of the same name by E. Lockhart.
The first book follows the glamorous lives of Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her close-knit group known as the Liars. However, their seemingly perfect world unravels during a trip that alters their lives forever.
The synopsis reads: "The Sinclairs are American royalty known for their good looks, old money and enviable bond; after a mysterious accident changes Cadence Sinclair's life forever, everyone, including her group of friends, seem to be hiding something."
The trailer also teases what the show is about, with a voice over from Cadence that says: "Once upon a time, there was a mythical land where it was always summer. We were happy, we wanted for nothing."
However, the tone darkens as she continues: ""Something terrible happened last summer and no one will tell me what.
"When you're left for dead, you want answers."
While the show appears to centre around a compelling mystery, fans might not have realised just how heartbreaking the ending would be.
Taking to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, viewers admitted they felt "devastated" after watching the gripping series.
"The way the story came together was insane but I was so unprepared for the most gut wrenching ending," one lamented.
Another dismayed fan warned: "I started #WeWereLiars think it was like a Nancy Drew mystery sort of show. But no.
"Do not watch this show. It is not worth the psychological trauma. I am broken. I've never cried so much to a TV show."
Another fan said the ending "will haunt me for the rest of my life", as another admitted: "#wewereliars is the saddest thing I've ever laid my eyes on I literally can't recover."
Yet another fan exclaimed: "No one told me #wewereliars was the most devastating f***ing plot I've ever seen and heard in my life."
One more fumed: "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT???? I was not expecting a fun little summer show about teenagers to be so devastating???"
While another took the time to recommend the series, despite the heartbreak, saying: "I can't get over the last episode, I've never cried so much watching a program such an amazing series though I highly recommend it! #wewereliars."
One fan dramatically stated: "Just finished #wewereliars and it broke me. My brain has been altered, I will never be the same."
"WTFFF !! I cant remember the last time a show made me cry this much the last episode killed me #WeWereLiars," another agreed.
Some fans were even kept up crying, with one confessing: "Okay f*** this show I didn't need to sob for an hour straight at midnight #wewereliars."
One more tweeted: "#wewereliars messed me up so bad. I was not expecting any of that. I was sobbing at 3am. Omg. My heart hurts."
