When it comes to gangster dramas, viewers are never short of choice. From Narcos to El Chapo, Bad Blood to Gangs of London, the genre has produced some of television's most gripping series in recent years. But for a growing number of fans online, one Sky series stands above the rest - and they are calling it "the best of all time."
An eight-part international crime drama, ZeroZeroZero follows a single cocaine shipment from its Mexican origins, through brokers in New Orleans, to its final buyers in Italy. Shot across multiple continents, the series weaves together the perspectives of cartels, corrupt businessmen and mafia clans, making for an ambitious and unflinching look at the global drug trade.
On Reddit, one viewer askedfor new gangster show recommendations, saying they had already worked through Narcos, Narcos: Mexico, El Chapo, Gangs of London and Kin.
The response was emphatic. "ZeroZeroZero tops all of those," one user declared, while another branded it a "masterclass," adding: "A crime in itself this show isn't more popular."
Fans on IMDb were equally full of praise. One reviewer described it as "one of the most underrated, surprisingly great series of the last few years," explaining: "It's an eight episode miniseries that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout each episode."
"It's beautifully shot, it has such a fresh, gritty feel to it. It's also brilliantly written, directed, acted. The acting is just fantastic, especially Dane DeHaan and Andrea Riseborough. I was so into this show that I binged all eight episodes over the course of a weekend."
Another called it "absolutely outstanding," praising how quickly the story moves and how strong the ensemble cast is: "Never at any point was I not totally absorbed by this series. All the actors were excellent, the story flows easily and quickly. Smashed it off in two days."
Others agreed, with reviews labelling it "outstanding," "terrific" and "a series that deserves far more attention than it gets."
ZeroZeroZero (2020) is available to watch on Apple TV and on NOW.
