Not everyone is lucky enough to have a large garden to grow flowers, with some people depending on small beds, balconies and corners to create a beautiful display. The good news is that some flowers are better suited to small spaces due to their easy maintenance and characteristics.

Certain plants and flowers thrive in small garden beds due to their growth habits, such as growing upwards. Those that stay compact and bloom throughout the growing season are also best-suited to small areas.

As reported by AOL, nasturtiums are particularly popular among gardeners who don't have much space. They are known for their versatility and quick growth rate.

Nasturtiums become vibrant and beautiful when grown in small beds or containers. Their peppery blooms are also edible.

As well as being ideal for those without much space, nasturtiums are also the perfect flower to grow for beginner gardeners. They germinate very quickly and are able to thrive in poor soil.

Nasturtiums can be grown in containers, borders or hanging baskets. Gardeners are advised to plant them in either full sun or partial shade with average, well-draining soil.

AOL said: "They prefer less nutrient-rich soil, which enhances their blooming potential. Water sparingly but consistently."

Mark Dianco, a gardening expert from Country Life, added: "Nasturtiums are so easy to grow. All you require is a packet of seed and the energy to cast its contents in the rough direction in which you would like to pick the flowers.

"They are so accommodating that you needn't give them the best spot: they will thrive in poor soil, too. For a more considered approach, sow in spring and push the seed an inch or so beneath the surface at the sort of spacing you'd like them.

"Nasturtiums germinate and grow with enthusiasm. Expect colourful trumpet flowers from late spring well into autumn."
