Summer is in full swing, and as prices for getaways are rising, it's becoming even harder to find an inexpensive city break for the family to soak up some fun - until now. But there's a new destination on the scene in Europe where you can enjoy a short escape without the grand old price tag.

The city is in the heart of the southwestern part of North Macedonia and is set against the beautiful backdrop of a number of stunning mountain ranges. Sandwiched between Albania and Bulgaria, the country itself is a key junction for commercial, industrial and cultural purposes, and the city has long been referred to as the city of consuls, acting as a place where many European countries have consulates.

Walking tours are available to explore the city's history from the Skopje Stone Bridge, standing tall for decades, the Old Bazaar and the rich history of Mother Teresa, who was born in Macedonia.

Most visitors choose to include their sightseeing tour by visiting the Skopje Fortress Kale in the old town.
