The UK's 'narrowest' home no wider than a Tube carriage on sale for £1.2m

A home believed to be one of the narrowest in the UK has gone on sale for nearly £1.2 million in an exclusive area of London. The two-bedroom house in upmarket Notting Hill is just seven feet wide - making it a tighter squeeze than most London Underground trains, which on average are around 8.6ft in width.

The three-storey home in Peel Street is being listed for £1.195 million by estate agents Unique Property Company. Its managing director, Simon Stone, said the property is "unlike anything in the whole of London" and is a "surprisingly usable space" despite its slim size. He said: "The ceiling heights are higher than you'd expect as well. With its townhouse layout, it's very practical.

"It would make an ideal full-time home for one person or a couple, or an excellent London base."

Speaking to the MailOnline, Mr Stone added: "The price point is also a major consideration. Around the £1.2million mark will generally only buy you a leasehold property in the prime pocket of Kensington, whereas this is a freehold home."

The home was originally built in the 1930s and underwent a makeover in the 1950s, according to reports.

It is a stone's throw from Kensington Palace and has a stained-glass window on its front door.

On the ground floor, there is an open-plan, parquet-floored kitchen and dining area, as well as a shower room, toilet and one of the home's two bedrooms.

The first floor is home to a reception area with a decorative fireplace, while doors also lead to a private decked terrace with balustrading at the back of the property that's said to be ideal for alfresco meals.

The second bedroom is on the top floor of the home, connected by a wooden staircase, boasting a good-sized ensuite bathroom and a front-facing sash window.

Notting Hill in west London is one of the capital's most iconic and desirable neighbourhoods.

It is famous for its Portobello Market, pastel-coloured houses and the Notting Hill Carnival which is held every August bank holiday.
