Vinicius Jr has previously confessed that he intends to leave Real Madrid before the end of his career. The Brazilian sensation has been linked with a move away from the Spanish powerhouse following his behaviour during the recent El Clasico.
Real secured a 2-1 victory over Barcelona at the Bernabeu on Sunday courtesy of strikes from Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham. Late controversy ensued as both Real keeper Andriy Lunin and Barcelona's Pedri received their marching orders. However, Vinicius had already let his frustrations show after being substituted for Rodrygo with around 20 minutes left on the clock. "Me, it's always me, I'm leaving the team, it's better that I go," Vinicius said as he responded to his substitution, storming down the tunnel before reappearing near the end of the match.
Vinicius has had a productive start to the season, scoring five goals and providing four assists across 10 La Liga fixtures, yet has featured for the full 90 minutes on only three occasions in all competitions. Following his outburst, Vinicius released an apology on social media.
"Today I want to apologise to all the Madridistas for my reaction when I was substituted in the Clasico," he shared on X. "Just as I have already done in person during today's training, I also want to apologise again to my team-mates, the club, and the president.
"Sometimes passion gets the better of me because I always want to win and help my team. My competitive character stems from the love I feel for this club and everything it represents."
The exclusion of Alonso from Vinicius' apology has sparked claims that their relationship is under strain. However, this isn't the first time Vinicius has hinted at leaving Real Madrid.
"I think I could stay here my whole career," Vinicius told L'Equipe in 2023. "But the club of my life is Flamengo. I promised my father that I would come back one day. I have to keep this promise."
Vinicius made the move from Flamengo to Real when he was just a teenager, joining the club after his 18th birthday in 2018. He played 69 matches during his stint with Flamengo and has since blossomed into one of the world's top players at Real, netting 111 goals and providing 87 assists in 336 matches.
Any team hoping to lure Vinicius away from Real in the near future, where he is currently contracted until 2027, would likely need to pay a hefty fee. Meanwhile, Alonso chose not to discuss Vinicius' comments during his post-match press conference at the weekend.
"I'm taking away a lot of positives from Vini Jr.'s performance and I don't want to lose sight of what's important," Alonso said. "He contributed a lot.
"It's an important, deserved victory, that could have been wider given the chances we had and the penalty. Regaining the feeling of being a competitive team in big games is important.
"All coaches know that there are different personalities. Now we'll enjoy it and, when the time comes, we'll talk about these things in the dressing room, of course."
