A woman's visit to Jeremy Clarkson's pub, The Farmer's Dog, has left Brits gobsmacked due to the price of the food. Amy Robinson, 20, ventured to the establishment, which Clarkson touts as a "proper British" boozer.
In a recent TikTok video, she praised the food as "10/10", deeming it "delicious". However, following her visit, it emerged that others were balking at the cost. The pub, located in Asthall, near Burford in Oxfordshire, was purchased by Clarkson for less than £1m, and was formerly known as The Windmill.
Keen to try out the fare, Amy stopped by for a meal and was thoroughly impressed. In her video, she showcased the outdoor dining area and the beautifully plated dishes. Her video has since racked up over 50,000 views, with viewers quick to pose questions and share their thoughts.
When quizzed about the pricing, Amy responded: "I had sausage of the day and it was £21.00." Another individual chimed in with: "It's on their website. We went there and I think a pie was like £24.00.
"Fancy sausage and mash was around the £20.00 mark. Drinks were around £7.00."
Another commenter noted: "You must be from Oxfordshire like me. We thought prices were normal, but people who had travelled were having a fit."
Some people were quick to point out that the prices are what you might "expect" in a country pub setting; however, not everyone saw eye to eye on this. Dissenting voices emerged, with a customer exclaiming: "The prices are insane."
A visit to the pub's official website reveals a variable price list, with a steak pie tagged at £24.00, while a gammon steak is slightly less, costing £22.00. A pint will set you back an average of £6.75, but this could vary based on your tipple of choice.
Despite some critics labelling it pricey, there were those who insisted the fare was "worth every penny." Another diner shared: "Great place, great staff, great atmosphere, great food."
Other happy customers agreed, with one remarking: "Had a Sunday roast here recently with my family. Food is 100% - all products locally sourced. I will be returning."
Another enthusiastic customer added: "It's amazing here. I've been three times now."
Well-known personality Jeremy Clarkson has chronicled his farming escapades on the widely acclaimed Amazon Prime series, Clarkson's Farm, and now he's delved into the realm of pub ownership with The Farmer's Dog.
Clarkson's latest entrepreneurial move is captured in Season 4 of his Amazon Prime reality show, showcasing the former Top Gear host embarking on "his most ambitious project yet."
The series promises an insight into Clarkson's journey as described in the official summary: "Jeremy is taking on his most ambitious project yet, setting out to buy a pub that will reignite his Farm to Fork restaurant vision.
"But the road to becoming a landlord isn't exactly straightforward, and with new faces, new livestock and new machinery arriving at the farm, life at Diddly Squat is busier than ever."
The latest series arrived in May but, since its opening in August last year, fans of the former Top Gear presenter have been regularly visiting his pub.
At the launch event, he explained his motivation for undertaking the project, saying: "We wanted to have that restaurant on the farm last year and we couldn't, and pubs, they are all for sale. So, we thought instead of building a restaurant we would buy a pub."
