PM Modi Inaugurates Rising North East Investors Summit 2025 in Delhi

From Frontier to Front-Runner

The Prime Minister emphasized that the Northeast’s transformation over the past 11 years is evident not just in numbers, but in the everyday lives of its people. He highlighted that over 700 visits by Union Ministers to the region signify more than policy engagement—they demonstrate a deep emotional bond. “What was once viewed as a remote frontier is now rising as a frontrunner in India’s development journey,” he remarked.

He highlighted that infrastructure development has been the cornerstone of the Northeast’s transformation. From the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh to the Bhupen Hazarika Bridge in Assam, along with 11,000 kilometers of highways, expanded railway networks, and a doubling of airports—the region is witnessing a remarkable “Infrastructure Revolution.”

A Strategic Trade Gateway

With ASEAN trade projected to exceed $200 billion, the Prime Minister highlighted the Northeast’s pivotal role as a strategic gateway to Southeast Asia. He cited key initiatives such as the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway and the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Project, which aim to shorten trade routes and boost connectivity via Mizoram. These projects, he emphasized, serve not only as trade corridors but as vital lifelines for deeper regional integration.

He also spoke of the development of Guwahati, Imphal, and Agartala as multi-modal logistics hubs and the operationalization of Land Custom Stations in Meghalaya and Mizoram as evidence of the region’s rising trade significance.

Wellness, Organic Agriculture, and Global Health

Reaffirming India’s vision to become a Global Health and Wellness Hub, Prime Minister Modi spotlighted the Northeast’s organic lifestyle, ecological diversity, and natural healing traditions as ideal for the global Heal in India initiative. He encouraged investors to tap into the region’s potential for wellness tourism and health infrastructure.

He highlighted that the scope of organic farming has doubled over the past decade. From aromatic turmeric and ginger to sweet pineapples and quality tea, the Northeast, he said, is poised to become the epicenter of India’s organic food exports. The PM reiterated his vision of seeing Indian organic food brands at dining tables worldwide—with the Northeast leading that revolution.

From Insurgency to Industry: Peace Paving the Way

The Prime Minister reflected on the transformation in law and order, noting that more than 10,000 youth have renounced arms in the past decade to embrace peace and prosperity. This shift, he stated, has opened the door to new employment, entrepreneurship, and investment. He hailed the MUDRA scheme, which has provided substantial financial support to youth and small businesses in the region.

Investments in Education, Sports, and Technology

“Education and skill development are the cornerstones of a progressive Northeast,” said Prime Minister Modi, highlighting that over ₹21,000 crore has been invested in the region’s education sector over the past decade. He noted several key milestones, including:

• Establishment of 800 new schools.
• The region’s first AIIMS.
• Nine new medical colleges, two IIITs, and a new IIMC campus in Mizoram.
• Establishment of India’s first Sports University in the Northeast under the Khelo India initiative.

In digital innovation, the Northeast is becoming India’s digital frontier. With the rollout of over 13,000 kilometers of optical fiber, coverage, and support for startups, the Prime Minister noted that the region is now India’s digital gateway to Southeast Asia.

Energy and Semiconductor Hub in the Making

Shri Modi made a pivotal announcement regarding the upcoming semiconductor manufacturing plant in Assam, which will soon roll out the first Made-in-India chip from the Northeast. He also highlighted massive investments in hydropower and solar energy, signaling the region’s evolution into a strategic energy hub.

He encouraged stakeholders to invest not only in generation infrastructure but also in allied sectors like manufacturing of solar modules, energy storage solutions, and R&D—laying the groundwork for future self-sufficiency in high-tech sectors.
