The event, envisioned as a celebration of economic opportunity and regional pride, brought together industry stalwarts, policymakers, diplomats, and thought leaders from across the globe to spotlight the vast, untapped potential of India’s vibrant North Eastern Region.
A Grand Opening with a Grand VisionWelcoming dignitaries and participants with deep warmth and confidence, Prime Minister Modi began his address by acknowledging the Northeast as “the most diverse region of our diverse nation.” He expressed immense pride in the region’s cultural richness, economic potential, and its rising role in India’s development trajectory. Referring to the recent Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav held at the same venue, he remarked that today’s summit is more than a policy gathering—it is a “celebration of investment” in the Northeast, a region whose moment to shine has truly arrived.
The Prime Minister extended his congratulations to the various ministries and state governments involved, applauding their relentless efforts in crafting a business-friendly environment. He described the Northeast Rising Summit as more than just an event—it is a movement of hope, confidence, and national progress.
Northeast: A Jewel in India’s Economic CrownHighlighting the region’s vast resources and unique strategic location, Shri Modi painted a vivid picture of a Northeast that is not just rich in biodiversity but also in economic potential. From its thriving bio-economy and bamboo industry to petroleum reserves, organic farming, and eco-tourism, he emphasized that the Northeast embodies the essence of Ashtalakshmi—symbolizing prosperity, opportunity, and transformation.
He stated emphatically, “For us, EAST is not just a direction but a vision—Empower, Act, Strengthen, and Transform,” reiterating the government’s policy thrust that places the Northeast at the center of India’s growth ambitions.
From Frontier to Front-RunnerThe Prime Minister emphasized that the Northeast’s transformation over the past 11 years is evident not just in numbers, but in the everyday lives of its people. He highlighted that over 700 visits by Union Ministers to the region signify more than policy engagement—they demonstrate a deep emotional bond. “What was once viewed as a remote frontier is now rising as a frontrunner in India’s development journey,” he remarked.
He highlighted that infrastructure development has been the cornerstone of the Northeast’s transformation. From the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh to the Bhupen Hazarika Bridge in Assam, along with 11,000 kilometers of highways, expanded railway networks, and a doubling of airports—the region is witnessing a remarkable “Infrastructure Revolution.”
A Strategic Trade GatewayWith ASEAN trade projected to exceed $200 billion, the Prime Minister highlighted the Northeast’s pivotal role as a strategic gateway to Southeast Asia. He cited key initiatives such as the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway and the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Project, which aim to shorten trade routes and boost connectivity via Mizoram. These projects, he emphasized, serve not only as trade corridors but as vital lifelines for deeper regional integration.
He also spoke of the development of Guwahati, Imphal, and Agartala as multi-modal logistics hubs and the operationalization of Land Custom Stations in Meghalaya and Mizoram as evidence of the region’s rising trade significance.

The PM reiterated his vision of seeing Indian organic food brands at dining tables worldwide—with the Northeast leading that revolution.

This shift, he stated, has opened the door to new employment, entrepreneurship, and investment. He hailed the MUDRA scheme, which has provided substantial financial support to youth and small businesses in the region.
