US president Donald Trump will send a letter to all new US citizens , department of homeland security and citizenship and immigration services announced on Wednesday.
The released letter is a congratulatory note, signed by Trump, and will be included in the citizenship packet given to migrants after they become naturalised citizens .
In the letter, Trump congratulates new Americans and reminds them of the oath they have taken. He writes that becoming a citizen means forming a “sacred bond” with the nation, its history, culture and values.
The letter says, “Our history is now your history. Our customs are now your customs. And our constitution is now yours to safeguard and respect.”
Trump adds that "America has always welcomed those who embrace our values, assimilate into our society and pledge allegiance to our country." He calls citizenship a “sacred trust” and says the United States, in return, offers freedom and opportunity.
Officials said the letter will be given to new citizens from Wednesday, the same day the US constitution was signed in 1787.
