Six people, including a 5-year-old girl, were injured in a mass shooting on Saturday night in a Baltimore neighbourhood, police said
“BPD is scene of a mass shooting at the intersection of Spaulding & Queensbury Avenues. Multiple streets in the area are closed to the public. Please avoid the area. More information to follow as it becomes available,” Baltimore police said through a post on X.
The shooting occurred shortly before 8.50 pm near the intersection of Spaulding and Queensberry Avenues, where people had gathered outside to eat, said Richard Worley, Baltimore police commissioner.
"Thankfully, it doesn't appear that her injury is very serious," Worley was quoted as saying by ABC News, referring to the 5-year-old who was injured in her hand.
A 38-year-old man was critically injured and was transported to a nearby hospital. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, homicide detectives have been dispatched to the scene, the police said in a press release, reported the Baltimore Banner.
The other victims, all aged between 23 and 52, are believed to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
"We have little information at this point. All we know is there's multiple rounds fired, multiple victims," said Worley, reported ABC News.
Worley said that some individuals were sitting outside on their porch, near a car, eating, "and it looks like somebody just opened fire," Worley said.
No information has been released about the suspect involved in the shooting as of yet, and an investigation is underway.
